Sustainability is the cornerstone of PacifiCorp’s environmental policy and vision. The company continually seeks to meet current needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

PacifiCorp's goals include:

• Increasing its emphasis on renewables and energy efficiency, as identified in the company’s progressive 2007 Integrated Resource Plan:
  • add 2,000 megawatts of new renewable resources by 2013;
  • acquire cost-effective energy efficiency resources of up to 450 average annual megawatts by leveraging existing programs and seeking new programs, and up to 100 megawatts of new direct load control starting in 2010.

• Meeting stringent new air quality standards with any new thermal generation developed in response to shortfall in supply;

• For existing coal, collaborating with policy makers to institute a program to significantly reduce air emissions and provide needed certainty for operation of our assets over 15-20 years;

• Improving environmental efficiency through assessment of material used throughout our business and reduction of waste produced;

• Protecting natural resources, respect cultural values and minimize our impact when siting, designing, constructing, operating and maintaining power delivery structures and facilities;

• Providing leadership in shaping compliance requirements within hydro operating licenses. Seek to achieve significant environmental improvements while maintaining an important renewable generation resource; and

• Addressing climate change with additions of renewable generation, conservation and thermal resources as outlined in the IRP as well as support for offset strategies where feasible. New resource decisions to meet growing demand will incorporate climate risk through the use of a carbon adder.
