Gonzo Inn keeps every day Earth Day with Blue Sky

MOAB, Utah  —  Décor isn’t the Gonzo Inn’s only nod to the 1970s as it celebrates Earth Day every day with purchases of Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky renewable energy.

“Supporting alternative sources of power seems like the right thing to do,” said Kali Bisco, operations manager of the Gonzo Inn. “Plus it’s been well received by our employees. We have quite a few who are enthusiastic about recycling and renewable power.”

The Gonzo Inn boasts an “eclectic expression of southwest influences, retro 70’s and industrial era” ambiance that is entertaining and tantalizing to the senses. The 100 percent non-smoking, pet-friendly inn is located one block off Main Street in downtown Moab. More information can be found at www.gonzoinn.com .

The inn is a champion-level participant in the green power program for buying 47 blocks of Blue Sky each month, as well as an EPA Green Power Business Partner. The Gonzo Inn’s purchase is equivalent to what seven typical Utah households use each month. Rocky Mountain Power sells Blue Sky renewable energy in 100-kilowatt-hour block increments for $1.95 each, in addition to a customer’s regular monthly electric bill. Last November, the U.S. Environmental Agency recognized Utah’s Greater Moab Area as the nation's first Green Power Community.

Blue Sky comes from wind power. Wind is an attractive form of energy generation because it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Wind produces no air pollutants, wastewater, smog or acid rain. Just one block of Blue Sky has the same environmental benefit of either not driving 2,500 miles or planting a half acre of trees. Enrollment is optional and customers can increase their participation or withdraw at any time.
