Coldwell Banker’s community leadership extends to cleaner air

MOAB, Utah — Joe Kingsley, partner in the Moab’s Coldwell Banker/Arches Realty office with Suzanne Lewis, and the owner of Country Clean car wash and laundry, has long demonstrated his commitment to community by supporting animals and music. Now he’s extending his care for the environment by purchasing Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky.

“As a partner with Coldwell Banker, we feel that participating in Blue Sky is extremely important; not only for our company, but for the community at large to promote pollution-free energy,” said Kingsley. “Further, to demonstrate our commitment to the environment, we have spent several thousands of dollars installing solar heating for the Country Clean car wash and laundry in Moab.”

Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky gives customers a way to grow the demand for wind energy and take advantage of its environmental benefits. It is sold in 100-kilowatt-hour block increments for $1.95 each, in addition to a customer’s regular monthly electric bill. Kingsley purchased 10 blocks of Blue Sky for each business.

He heard about Blue Sky from Moab’s Mayor Dave Sakrison, who was beating the drum to sign up new customers and obtain national status. Last November, the U.S. Environmental Agency recognized Utah’s Greater Moab Area as the nation’s first Green Power Community.

“We feel that the leadership and vision of Mayor Sakrison is an example for Mayors throughout the country,” Kingsley said.

Blue Sky’s energy is derived from wind power. Wind is an attractive form of energy generation because it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Wind produces no air pollutants, wastewater, smog or acid rain. Blue Sky helps spur renewable power development and brings additional amounts of clean, renewable energy into the power system.

Kingsley’s purchase of 20 blocks per month offsets the release two tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which has the same benefit as planting more than 390 trees each month. Just one block of Blue Sky purchased each month for a year has the same environmental benefit of either not driving 2,500 miles or planting a half acre of trees.

Coldwell Banker is one of the leading real estate brokerage offices in Southeast Utah. “We’re very active in community affairs, including Moab Humane Society and Moab Music Festival,” said Kingsley and Lewis. “For example, we’re chairing fundraising for a new animal shelter in Moab.”

Kingsley said to call 435-259-5931 if anyone wants to contribute to the animal shelter effort.
