Gazebo provides place for concerts, events - even a sip for Fido
GATES, Ore. — Children, residents and travelers will be able to use the new gazebo planned in Gates thanks in part to support
from the Pacific Power Foundation. The foundation donated $500 to the project to help build the new gathering place.
The gazebo will be a focal point for the community with benches and even a drinking fountain for pets. The gazebo will also
enhance the community’s planned summer farmers market and will serve as a place to hold concerts and other community events.
"We are proud to help bring a place where children can wait for the bus or a traveler may stretch their legs," said Doris
Johnston, regional community manager for Pacific Power. "Our company has a long history of bringing communities together,
and I can't think of a more fitting symbol for the foundation to support than a gathering place."
The gazebo project is the work of community leaders in the towns of Gates and Mill City in eastern Marion County. The leaders
took a special community leadership class offered through the Ford Family Foundation. Part of the course is to create, organize
and complete a project with strong community impact. This group, the second group from the area to undergo the training, chose
the gazebo project to demonstrate what they had learned.
"The community has been waiting a long time for a nice place to hold outdoor events and the gazebo will be just that place,"
said Elise Bauman, Mill City Gates Group 2 chair. "We are delighted with the Pacific Power Foundation’s support of this community
project."
