Toketee Lake Access

August 1, 2015, Toketee Lake Access by Boat Ramp Limited Due to Lowered Water Level During Study

Usability of the boat ramp at Toketee Reservoir, also known as Toketee Lake in the Umpqua National Forest is limited due to reduced reservoir levels. PacifiCorp regrets any inconvenience this may cause. Boaters and recreationalists who can't portage their boats to the water are encouraged to use boat ramps at Lemolo Reservoir and Diamond Lake until further notice.

In the interest of public safety, PacifiCorp has lowered the level of Toketee Reservoir and will maintain the reduced water level until further notice. This action is the result of safety inspections at PacifiCorp's 58-foot high Toketee Dam, located about 60 miles east of Roseburg on the North Umpqua River. This is purely a precautionary measure in the interest of public safety.

A geotechnical investigation associated with a seismic stability analysis of Toketee Dam indicates that the earthen dam may be susceptible to damage in the event of an earthquake. PacifiCorp has a responsibility and obligation to take precautionary steps once such information is known.

The new information is currently being analyzed to determine what could happen to the dam under various earthquake scenarios. Therefore, Toketee Reservoir will continue to be operated at the lower elevation until more information is available from the engineering analysis. Once engineers have determined that the dam can withstand potential earthquake shaking and upon agreement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), PacifiCorp will return the reservoir to its normal operating level. This process may take several years to complete.

Toketee Reservoir and dam are part of the North Umpqua Hydroelectric Project, owned and operated by PacifiCorp under a FERC license. PacifiCorp is proud to provide some of the finest water recreation opportunities in the Northwest at the reservoirs behind its hydroelectric dams. The company is very aware and is equally disappointed that lowering the water level at the reservoir will cause inconvenience to boaters. The safety of the public, employees, customers and facilities is PacifiCorp's No. 1 priority.

PacifiCorp appreciates the cooperation of the U.S. Forest Service and boaters alike. The company will provide additional updates as they become available.
