What is the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)?

To compete in the global market and thrive, employers need employees who are proficient in the crucial skills that meet the rising demands of 21st century jobs. The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is a hiring tool that addresses concerns voiced by the business community, namely access to qualified job applicants.

Individuals who earn a certificate have demonstrated that they can apply the critical foundational skills that nearly every job uses. The NCRC has been incorporated into our organization's existing hiring practices for certain entry level jobs. As an objective measure, it is one factor in many that helps determine an applicant's fit for a job. It can also be used to help identify training paths that help employees advance.

The NCRC is distinctive because it measures applied skills in three core areas:

Reading for Information:  Measures skill used when reading written text

Applied Mathematics:  Measures skill in applying mathematical reasoning, critical thinking and problem-solving techniques

Locating Information:  Measures skill in working with workplace graphics to find and analyze information
