Estimator apprentice

Overview

The Apprentice Estimator is an employee who is in training to become a Journeyman Estimator.

During the apprenticeship and while under the guidance of a journeyman estimator, this employee will represent the company when meeting with customers to determine customer load requirements and advise customers of the company's service requirements. They will gain a basic knowledge of company programs and solutions to serve the customer’s needs. They will become qualified to perform all estimating/designing functions related to building, re-building and maintaining company electric facilities. They shall gain a basic knowledge of electrical theory and practical and detailed knowledge of construction specifications, electrical codes, rates and tariff policies upon completion of the program.

Expectations

  • The Apprentice Estimator will be required to complete 1,000 hours of ground time in a utility construction environment.
  • As an apprentice you may be required to work anywhere in our service area (northern California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming) while you obtain training in various areas of the field.
  • An Apprentice Estimator and Journeyman Estimator must be willing and available to respond to “after hours” emergencies and work when called upon. This is not optional, it is required.
  • Must be courteous and efficient when working with members of the public.

The strongest candidates will have:

  • Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems, electrical theory, and mechanical principles
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong math skills
