Oquirrh to Terminal transmission line project

Project overview

This project is a 14-mile 345-kilovolt transmission line planned to run from the existing Oquirrh Substation in West Jordan to the existing Terminal Substation in Salt Lake City. This new transmission lines helps address growth and development in the Wasatch Front by increasing transfer capability, upgrading system capacity and improving reliability for customers.

About the project

The transmission system between the Mona area and the Wasatch Front is constrained and the current transmission is fully utilized. This line is necessary in order to meet anticipated customer load and improve service reliability across areas along the Wasatch Front. This project will increase transfer capability and support growth in the area, while facilitating the interconnection of additional renewable energy capacity in the region.

Jurisdictions in the project area include Salt Lake City, West Valley City, West Jordan City and Kearns (Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District).

This 14-mile-long transmission project will assist in mitigating the transmission constraint between the Mona area and the Wasatch Front. The project will involve the following:

  • Voltage: 345kV
  • Structures: Approximately 100 new structures
  • Average Tower Height Range: 145-185 ft.
  • Span Between Structures: 800-1,300 ft.
  • Right of Way Width: 150 ft.
