PORTLAND, Ore. — The Department of Energy Vehicle Technology Office announced funding earlier this month for 55 projects to advance vehicle technologies, including PacifiCorp’s WestSmart EV@Scale, which will receive a $6.6 million award as one of the largest funded projects.
The project will create an enduring regional electric vehicle ecosystem across the West and sustain accelerated growth in freight, business and consumer use of electric vehicles.
The WestSmart EV@Scale project is a comprehensive and ambitious community partnership that includes more than 25 strategic partners, with PacifiCorp divisions Pacific Power, Rocky Mountain Power and sister company NV Energy all playing major roles. The project spans seven states and will address regional challenges in critical EV application focus areas, including destination highways, underserved regions, urban mobility, freight and port electrification, along with community and workplace charging.
The project will provide coordinated efforts to electrify over 42,000 miles of regional interstate and state highway networks, and includes more than $10 million in cost share. The work will complement the company’s existing programs and new $50 million EV Infrastructure Program in Utah, positioning PacifiCorp as one of the leading utilities in the country in electrified transportation.
