Information on wildfire litigation

As a result of the historic and tragic wind event of Labor Day 2020, many Oregonians suffered losses to their homes, businesses and communities.

We recognize the devastating effects of these fires, and we maintain our belief that settlement is the best, most efficient path forward for those who were impacted to find closure. To date, PacifiCorp has resolved nearly 90% of known claims, totaling $2.3 billion, related to fires other than Beachie Creek/Santiam Canyon, which the Oregon Department of Forestry determined the company did not cause or contribute to.

Appeal before the Oregon Court of Appeals

On April 8, 2026, the Oregon Court of Appeals issued a unanimous decision reversing and remanding the case back to the original trial court.

In June, at the request of Plaintiff’s attorneys, the Oregon Supreme Court agreed to review the Court of Appeals’ decision.

We are confident, based on its strong legal and factual foundations, that the Court of Appeals’ decision will stand. We look forward to the Oregon Supreme Court’s consideration of the key issues and to the Court affirming the unanimous Oregon Court of Appeals decision. In the meantime, we will continue to assert our position vigorously and underscore the strong legal and factual foundations supporting that decision.
